Gridbox 3. Comments and Reviews Cleanup

Gridbox 3. Comments and Reviews Cleanup

In Gridbox 3.0, the cleanup continues. Comments and Reviews are among the most powerful apps in the Joomla website builder Gridbox. We’ve always been proud of their flexibility and unique functionality. But with great power comes… re-evaluation.

Using our own Comments App daily, we realized that many features remain unused. As a result, we made a difficult but necessary decision to radically rework the admin side of Comments and Reviews. Everything that added clutter is gone. Everything that truly helps has been kept and improved.

Bold Changes for Better Usability

In Gridbox 3.0, we took bold steps to simplify and optimize the admin panel of Reviews and Comments

We’re so proud of our Comments App that we built our entire Technical Support Forum on it. And working with it every day led us to one conclusion: the admin panel doesn’t need to duplicate everything available on the frontend.

Simplifying is not a step backward. It’s a deliberate move toward clarity. We’re focusing on minimalism and standards. The admin panel is a workspace, not a showroom. Features that are more convenient on the frontend stay on the frontend and are no longer part of the admin panel. The admin area becomes faster, lighter, and easier to use. We’re choosing stability, performance, and streamlined functionality.

Removed Everything Unnecessary

We analyzed how moderators use Comments and Reviews apps and cleared out everything outdated or rarely used.

Gravatar. As mentioned in our previous post Managing Apps and Integrations, we’ve removed Gravatar integration. This avatar service is losing popularity, and we don’t need extra dependencies anymore. We are making Gridbox lighter and more independent.

Comment editing. The ability to edit user comments from the admin panel is gone. It’s ethically questionable. If someone posts spam, you can delete the comment or block the user, and that’s enough.

Replying. The ability to reply to comments from the admin panel has been removed. It is much easier to track, reply to, and manage the full chain of dialogue on the front.

Emoji. Yes, we have removed the built-in emoji. They once added emotion, but today they are built into any operating system. No need to duplicate that inside the apps.

Image uploads and preview. The lightbox viewer took up a lot of code and was rarely used. Want to see the image? Just open the comment on the frontend, it’s all there.

Redesigned Comments Interface

The first thing you’ll notice is the refreshed interface, fully aligned with Gridbox 3 new visual standard: clean, light, and professional. Modals, fields, and controls now look seamless and consistent.

Comments are displayed as a wide field, showing more of the message at a glance. Easier to read, easier to manage.

Clicking on a comment opens a new modal. Now there is no editing option, but all the necessary information and actions are available:

  • Change comment status
  • Open the page where the comment was posted
  • Download attachments
  • Block the user

We also redesigned the Comments Settings window to match the new Gridbox 3 visual standard. No major changes or cleanup of functionality, just neat design touches that make the interface more harmonious and coherent. Everything is still there, but it looks cleaner and polished.

Changes in the Reviews App

The Reviews App followed the same path as Comments. The interface has been refreshed, and the review modal window has also changed in line with Gridbox 3 visual language. It's better to see once than to talk about it for a long time. Just take a look at the screenshot below.

Still in Progress

Gridbox 3.0 is more than just a visual update. It’s a philosophy: remove what’s unnecessary, strengthen what works. We’re simplifying the UI, reducing clutter, and doubling down on usability. The revamped Comments and Reviews Apps are a step toward a better content management experience.

And this is only the beginning. We’re continuing to refine Gridbox 3. More simplicity, more clarity, more power 👊😎
