Gridbox 3. Revamped Content Management
In our previous blog post, we gave you a sneak peek into what we've been working so hard on. We know you want to hear more details about Joomla website builder Gridbox 3, and honestly, we can’t wait to finally share all the exciting changes with you!
The major work on the admin panel is complete, and today, we're ready to reveal the improvements. On the agenda: a revamped content management. What has changed? What’s now more convenient? Where are the hidden surprises? Time to explore the details!
Improved Workspace
Gridbox 3.0 is the next step in the platform’s evolution. Our goal? To make website building even smoother, more efficient, and more enjoyable. That’s why we focused on refining content management and making the interface clearer, more logical, and packed with useful features.
As we mentioned in our previous blog post, Gridbox 3. Evolution without Revolution, our approach in Gridbox 3.0 is about enhancement, not a complete redesign.
As we like to say: perfection has no finish line! We’ve unified every interface element — windows, checkboxes, dropdowns, and pickers now follow a consistent standard. We carefully reviewed and refined every UI component, which resulted in a 6x optimization of the code.
But let’s take it step by step. We’ll start with the Gridbox Pages changes.
Content Listing View
The content listing view is the foundation for content creation and management in Gridbox. We've fine-tuned every detail, from tooltips to the context menu, to ensure that managing content requires minimal effort while maximizing productivity.
Flexible Tables
In Gridbox 3.0, tables now expand to 80% of the screen width, providing a more comfortable and productive content management experience.
Updated Drag & Drop
Moving elements is now more intuitive and effortless. In Gridbox 3.0, the entire row moves with the item when you drag it, making the process feel more natural and visually clear.
Compact Dropdowns
Dropdowns are now cleaner! We removed unnecessary scrolling inside dropdown lists. Now, all elements are immediately visible and accessible, providing a tidier interface and a faster, smoother workflow.
Category Listing
Category management has also been thoroughly refined with a major code refactoring. We've streamlined its structure, improved performance, and liquidated unnecessary elements.
Performance Improvements
We’ve done extensive optimization work to improve performance. SQL queries have been refined, ensuring that even with 1 500+ categories, the content listing view loads instantly. Impressive, isn’t it?! No more waiting. Whether you have a few categories or over 1000, the content listing view loads immediately, keeping your workflow uninterrupted.
Category Editing
We've redesigned the way you manage categories, removing unnecessary UI elements like edit and delete icons. In Gridbox 3.0, categories can now be edited only via right-click, offering a quick method to make changes.
Sorting Categories
The category sorting method remains the same, using Drag & Drop and the Move To option.
Drag & Drop. Categories can be moved by dragging the folder icon. The new animation makes the process feel smoother and natural, providing a more intuitive experience.
Move To. The Move To modal window may look the same at first glance, but under the hood, it’s a completely new and optimized folder structure.
Item Settings View
The biggest transformation happened in the item settings modal. We dedicated a huge amount of time to refining every detail to make the editing process as smooth, intuitive, and efficient as possible.
Settings Dialog
In Gridbox 3, the item settings modal now resizes to the full height of the screen, allowing you to see more settings at once without unnecessary scrolling. Labels are larger, and input fields are wider, making it easier to view and enter information with maximum comfort.
Native Dropdowns
We’ve moved away from custom dropdowns in favor of standard browser ones. At first glance, this might seem like a small change, but trust us, it makes a world of difference in your workflow.
It’s worth mentioning that this change isn’t limited to the settings dialog. We’re replacing all custom dropdowns across the entire Gridbox with browser ones. A small tweak with a big impact!
Category Selection
We’ve completely redesigned the category selection method. The change process of the main category and managing additional categories is now much more intuitive and user-friendly.
Now, you have two input fields: Default Category and Additional Categories. The Default Category is a classic dropdown where you can change the main category of an item. Additional Categories allows you to select multiple categories where the item should also be displayed.
Tags Selection
The logic behind creating and adding tags remains the same, but the selection process has been completely transformed. Now, when choosing tags, a redesigned modal window opens, providing a much better user experience. Just select the necessary tags from the list and click the Save button.
Author Selection
The custom dropdown for authors has been replaced with a modal window that includes a search field. If your site has many authors, you’ll absolutely love this improvement!
Data Tag Selection
The data tag selection process has also undergone a major transformation. We’ve completely redesigned the modal layout. Now, it expands dynamically based on the content. This means you can view more data tags at once and select multiple tags in a single action.
Even Much More
We could describe absolutely every change we made. In short, category creation, item deletion, language associations, context menu, CKE text editor, all modals with bulk editing, and absolutely each detail on content listing view have been reviewed and changed.
Conclusion
At first glance, these changes may seem subtle. But if you open Gridbox 2.x side by side and compare the elements, the transformation is truly massive. That’s the beauty of the revamped interface. You won’t feel lost or need to relearn anything. Everything remains familiar and in its place, yet the experience has been significantly improved.
Today, we’ve only scratched the surface of what’s new in the admin panel. The Media Manager, Photo Editor, Apps, Integrations, Store Settings, and Dashboard — every part of the admin panel has been changed. And we’ll be covering all of it in upcoming blog posts.
